TYPES OF DEMOLITION

The types of demolition services we offer  are set out below, click on the heading for more info.

DEMOLITION & DISMANTLING

We have vast experience of providing full demolition or partial hand reductions to all types of structures. In addition, we have proven experience of undertaking emergency demolitions resulting from fire or structural damage.

Dismantling is a term used to describe the polar opposite of construction. Using this method the structure or sections of a structure are stripped down in the reverse order of which it was built.

Dismantling is often used so a structure can be rebuilt, however in some cases this is done because it is the safest option.

A combination of dismantling and demolition is often beneficial as it permits the recovery of assets, enabling assets to be recycled, re-used or sold on.

We can provide a full demolition or dismantling service, for any project from small residential areas, industrial factories, educational facilities, bridges, city centre properties and petrochemical sites both in the public and private sectors.

STRIP OUT

The ‘strip out’ is a specific area of demolition works developing the refurbishment of an existing structure that has a suitable outer shell.

‘Strip out’ works have become more popular as clients choose to develop existing structures utilising the existing outer building over a full rebuild.

During these works the waste streams which are removed are often:

 • furniture

 • carpets

 • ceiling tiles

As well as static waste products which includes:

 • timber shelving

 • Strapping

 • Skirting

 • Flooring

 • partition frames.

In some projects all internal walls and floors can be removed leaving only the outer walls and roof on the structure.

ASBESTOS REMOVAL

Asbestos was used extensively as a building material in Britain in the 20th century. Although some of this material has been removed over the years, there are many thousands of tonnes of asbestos still present in buildings.

When asbestos is identified, it is the contractor’s statutory duty to ensure that it is removed competently and safely to prevent exposure to their workforce and the public.

Asbestos can cause unanticipated delays to construction schedules, which is why Rubbles has a network of partners to offer a comprehensive service to access, analyse and resolve the situation quickly.

We work with qualified asbestos surveyors. This capability brings significant advantages to our clients both when carrying out stand-alone surveys and when undertaking asbestos removal and demolition works. Please see our “Hazardous Waste” section for more information.

SITE CLEARANCE

Site clearance is the term that can be used to explain the actual demolition sequence itself or to describe the removal of fly-tipped waste materials.

The waste streams often include:

  • asbestos, COSHH and other types of specialist waste found on Greenfield or Brownfield sites.
  • the removal and disposal of muck from site. Commonly known as a ‘muck away’ this is the process of removing inert material to a licenced final destination for soil material.
  • Correspondingly sites often have brick and concrete remaining that developers need to re-use where possible. We operate our own mobile crusher that can crush brick and concrete on site for the redevelopment.

By offering this mobile service at the source it reduces the need to bring in external stock thus being a financially viable and sustainable site clearance option. See our “Site Clearance” section for more information.

BULK EXCAVATION

We regularly carry out bulk excavations to ensure that development sites are presented in the perfect condition for redevelopment.

For instance:

  • Sites may have been left uneven following previous work or may require levelling or re-grading to accommodate change of use at the clients request.
  • Or the transformation of brownfield sites for redevelopment.

We have the ability to reduce the hefty cost of site remediation, whatever the condition of your site, we have the experience and the equipment to re-engineer the site. See our “Groundworks” section for more information.
